-learned our new words of the week. This week we are learning the "th" digraph. There are videos under the video section to help us learn this sound. The words of the week are: the, that, then, this with. Please practice these words at home a little each evening to ensure your child can recognize these as sight words.
-learned our new poem of the week called, "This and That".
-had a sharing circle to share about our weekends.
-wrote journals about our weekends. Before writing we went through the writing bullseye to discuss what the expectations are for writing. At this point in the year we are working on remembering finger spaces between words, stretching out words to hear all of the sounds and then using our best kid spelling, making sure our pictures match our words, and using our classroom tools such as the word wall and sentence starters.
--had our last day of circus in gym. Unfortunately, the equipment was not all being used as expected and with focus so we will try circus again later in the year.
-did our daily smart board calendar. Can your child read the date from a calendar?
-had Mindful Monday where we learned about Perspective. Ask your child what perspective means and to tell you a time when they had to try to understand a situation from another persons perspective. "What is Perspective?" is our big question for the year so we will keep exploring this question throughout the year.
-learned about sorting rules in math. We played a game called "Guess My Rule" Where we sorted our classmates into two different groups based on our rule and everyone had to guess what the sorting rule was. Next, we found objects around the room and came up with rules to sort them. I challenged all students to come up with a rule besides color in order to sort their objects.
Please and Thank you:
We could really use more volunteers each morning from 8:30-am in order to make our home reading program a success. Please let our room coordinator, Leanne Trevis know if you are able to make it in. You do not need to come each week, any day that you can make it is always appreciated!
