To help us learn about cultural traditions within our classroom community, we would like to invite students to share and teach about their own celebrations and holiday customs. This is not limited to winter holidays, nor is it limited to "official" holidays, if there is a special seasonal tradition your family enjoys. This could take the form of (but is not restricted to) a photograph, artifact, video, or poster. Please email me at [email protected] with the tradition or holiday that your child would like to share before Friday, December 8. A presentation schedule will be sent home the week of December 11. The sharing will take place the week of December 18. Your child should be able to speak about their holiday or tradition and answer questions.
Our Words of the week are:
see, eat, need, week, team, feel, peace
All of these words contain one of the two "Squealy E sisters". The ee and ea sisters love to go everywhere together and squeal when they are there! EEEEEEE! This is fun! Can your child tell you how the sound made by ee and ea? Please practice these words a little each day. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. Please continue to review the ee and ea letter pattern videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-had Mrs. K in to sub while Mrs. Smith did some planning with the grade one team.
-had literacy centres. Ask your child which station he/she was on?
-did punctuation pause and rhyme time in our poem "Colour Song"
-practiced printing our words of the week, paying careful attention to whether they were giraffe, turtle or worm letters and the correct spacing of those letters.
-discussed responsibilities and reflected in our visual journals about responsibilities that we each take on to make our home, school and communities better.
-had our daily numeracy time. Can your child count aloud by 5's to 100?
-continued working on our shape art.
-had gym outside
In Mail Pockets:
-Nothing new today!
Please and Thank you:
-a huge thank you to William's mom for helping around the classroom today.
-a huge thank you to Abigail's mom for coming in to update the sight words today. Please remind your child to bring his/her sight word ring back to school each day! I am hoping they will be practicing these both at home and at school.
-If you are able to help around the classroom or with reading for the first half hour please let Laura Briggs (our fabulous room coordinator) know!
-many of our white board markers are starting to die out. If you are able to donate more please send them in!
