Many students did not have their sight word rings or home reading bags with them today. Please remember to return these each day so they can be used at home and school.
Our Words of the week are:
she, share, shine, shop, wish show
All of these words contain the sh digraph. Can your child tell you how the sound made by sh? Please practice these a little each day. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways! Please continue to review the sh videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-started our day with an exciting Skype call with Justin Miles, an explorer living in the arctic. He talked to us about life in the arctic and his campaign called "Just for a Cause", which advocates for the right for every child to have an education.
-did "word detectives" in our poetry where we hunted for word wall words and sh letter patterns.
-continued to discuss rights of the child and worked on sketchbook pages reflecting on the rights guaranteed to children in the Children's Rights Convention.
-had our daily numeracy time. Can your child count aloud to 100?
In Mail Pockets:
-Nothing new today!
Please and Thank you:.
-a huge thank you to Abigail's mom for coming in to help with sight words.
-If you are able to help around the classroom or with reading for the first half hour please let Laura Briggs (our fabulous room coordinator) know!
-many of our white board markers are starting to die out. If you are able to donate more please send them in!
