We will be having our Remembrance Day assembly Friday, November 10th at 10:45am. On this day, students are welcome to bring in a donation to the poppy fund as all students will receive a poppy this day. Students who are part of brownies, girl guides or scouts are welcome to wear their attire. Grade 5 students and musical theater performers are asked to wear white shirts and dark pants. We are also supporting the veteran’s food drive. Non-perishable items can be placed in the bins by the office.
Our Words of the week are:
bike, like, here, hope, made, make, take, use, peace
All of these words contain the "super E" . Can your child tell you how the Super E changes words? Please practice these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways! Please continue to review the Super E by watching Super/Magic E videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-started our day with Mrs. with Mrs. Dennill.
-did punctuation pause and rhyme time in poetry where we circled punctuation and rhymes in our poems of the week.
-did work work, where we reviewed the power that Super E and wrote words on white boards then changed them using the Super E. Can your child sound out how to spell-mad, rid, hop, cam, kit, us, cut? What do these words become when Super E is added to the end of them?
-had a printing prevention with our Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist. They taught us that when printing one hand is the working hand and the other hand is the helper hand, that there is a correct printing posture, that we can hold our pencils using an alligator fingers, that the pencil lies in the bed, and how to correctly position our paper.
-Can your child show you the alligator fingers that are best to hold a pencil with?
-started sketchbook pages reflecting on our time at Fort Calgary.
We had PoWer Hour. In PoWer Hour we:
-practiced doing each others hair in cosmetology.
-made healthy granola bars in cooking.
-played our favourite card game in Card Minnows.
-finished robots and starting programming to make it move in Lego Mindstorms.
-painted Christmas paintings in Masterpieces.
-made our bodies stronger by doing a variety of GoNoodle exercises in PoWer Kids.
-had our daily numeracy time. Can your child make 44 cents using coins? Can they count the money aloud to you?
-watched a video called "Pittance of Time" (found under Social Studies Videos). Ask your child what he/she noticed in this video? What does Pittance of Time mean?
In Mail Pockets:
-Nothing new today!
