There is no school tomorrow due to a PD day! Have a great long weekend!
Your child came home with a sight word ring yesterday. Please take these sight words off of the ring to practice. You can practice through a variety of games such as memory, go fish etc. You can also found online games and apps by googling "Dolch Sight words" I highly recommend Sight word Bingo from abaya.com These words are important, high frequency words. Many of them cannot be sounded out and therefore it is important to memorize them by sight.
Our Words of the week are:
bike, like, here, hope, made, make, take, use, peace, ride, bike,
We will continue to explore words that have the "super E" . Can your child tell you how the Super E changes words? Please practice these a little each day. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways! Please continue to review the Super E by watching Super/Magic E videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-started our day with music with Mrs. Dennill.
-were word detectives and hunted for words of the week and super magic E words in our poetry.
-continued practicing ringette in gym.
-brainstormed different ways to use sorting and ways that we use sorting. (i.e.-colour, size, shape etc.) Then we played a game called "Guess my sorting rule". You can try this at home with any objects-my kids LOVE using their Halloween candy for this! One person thinks of a sorting rule and sort the objects according to that rule, the other people try to guess what the sorting rule is!
-had our daily numeracy time. Can your child use the "blast off" strategy to figure out the following problems: 9-____=7 , 15-_______=12
Had PoWer Hour. In power hour we:
-painted Christmas paintings in Masterpieces
-made volcanos out of plasticine in cooking.
-worked together to finish our robots in Lego Windstorms.
-coloured and braided each others hair in Cosmetology.
played the zyleplhone in school of rock.
-worked on our growth mindset sketchbook pages in PoWer kids.
-started to discuss the difference between Needs and Wants. Can your child tell you the difference between Needs and Wants? What is something at home that is a need? What is something at home that is a want?
In Mail Pockets:
-Poetry books and home reading coming home. Please be sure to return on Monday.
Please and Thank you:
-If you are able to help around the classroom or with reading for the first half hour please let Laura Briggs (our fabulous room coordinator) know!
Upcoming Dates:
Friday November 17-PD Day (NO School For Students)
