If at any time you have any questions for me the best way to reach me is by e-mail at [email protected].
Our library book exchange will be next Monday September 18. It is cancelled this week due to book fair.
Our Words of the week are:
it is in at am us up
Please practice these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways!
Today we:
-had our community meeting where we shared the best and worst parts of our weekends.
-learned out the short vowel sounds. We met our short vowel friends Al, Ed, Iggy, Olly and Upsy and learned actions to help us remember each short vowel sound. Ask your child to show you the short vowel actions. Can they remember the sound made by each of the short vowels?
-learned our poem of the week "The Short Vowel Song".
-started our printing program. We learned correct posture for printing and hand exercises to strengthen our hands for correct pencil grip. This week we are focusing on the flagpole letters: i, j, l, t, k. We call them the flagpole letters because all of these letters start at the top of the pole and slide straight down. Today we practiced writing the flagpole letters in salt.
-did our daily calendar time. Can your child find and say the date from a calendar?
-continued to work on our "I am" Art.
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-had a "Mindful Monday" grade one superstorm where we read and discussed the book The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and learned the importance of making mistakes so you can learn. We continued to discuss the idea of a growth mindset.
