We are excited for our field trip to the Grow Calgary urban farm tomorrow! The students will be helping harvest fresh produce to feed hungry Calgarians through various compassionate food agencies, including the Food Bank, Inn From the Cold, and the Calgary Drop-In Center. At the moment the forecast is for partly cloudy and a high of 14 degrees so please prepare for rain or shine. Students will need comfortable clothes that are okay getting dirty, layers to provide options for fluctuating temperatures, and sturdy shoes. While Grow Calgary has extra pairs of gardening gloves, volunteers and students are encouraged to bring their own to use. Please pack a large litter-free lunch and snacks if possible, as well as a large water bottle.
Thanks for meeting with me at conferences last week! It was great to meet with all of you and work as a team for how to ensure your child has a successful year this year! Please don't hesitate to e-mail or make a meeting with me if you have any further questions or concerns!
Highlights of Day:
In preparation for our Grow Calgary Field Trip tomorrow we learned about the concept of harvesting plants. We discussed harvesting and watched some videos. These videos can be found under Science Videos in the Video link.
We practiced our new poem called "Harvest". It was written by Mrs. Morin and is all about what we are doing this week and why it is so important.
We read, chanted and body spelled our new words of the week.
They are: did will got went as fun
we are working with these to reinforce short vowel sounds and how to sound out cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant) and vc (vowel-consonant) words. Please work on these at home a little each night.
We used gel bags to learn how to print "bounce" letters (r, n, m, h, b, and p).
In phys ed we went on some super fun adventure runs to track kilometers for Terry Fox -- we ran 34 km as a collective group!
In the afternoon we had a Mindful Monday superstorm to learn about "Biscotti Kid" whole body listening. This video can be found under the video links in the blog. Check it out and ask your child how they feel they are doing with Whole Body Listening.
We showed 8 in as many ways as we could in our math journals.
