we will be exploring the "bossy r" sound made by ur, er and ir this week. Can your child remember what sound ur, er and ir all make? Please watch the videos under the word work session and practice these words a little bit each night. Please remember that the main priority is on learning to read these words by sight and once your child becomes confident with this they can practice spelling them!
Today We:
-had literacy stations
-learned our new words of the week and the sound by by the ur, ir and er letter patterns.
-learned our new poem called Ten Buddies and discussed the different equations that make up ten buddies.
-did a sharing circle about our weekends.
-watched a video called "Austin's Butterfly" that is all about giving useful feedback to help others improve their work and then did an Authors chair where various students shared their favourite piece of sensory writing and then go feedback from their classmates on how they could improve it.
-wrote in our journals about our weekends, making sure to add sensory details.
-had two musical practices.
-read a book called The Invisible Boy and then had a sharing circle about times people may feel invisible at school and what we can do as a classroom community to help ensure no one in our community feels that way. It was a great discussion with many very powerful ideas!
-watched some short science clips on how the ear works and how the eye works.

Important Concert Info:
We are excited for the upcoming school concert performances! The students are working very hard and sounding great! Students are asked to attend their performances wearing a solid-coloured (no prints or logos) yellow, orange, red, or green t-shirt, and dark pants. If you do not have a solid coloured t-shirt, you could always try turning one with a small graphic inside out and that should do the trick.
Please note that even if your child is not coming in the evening, there is a full performance each of those days during school hours so each child has an opportunity to perform at least once. Students with last names A-L will be performing Wednesday evening. There will also be an A-L dress rehearsal Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. Students with last names M-Z will be performing Thursday evening, with a dress rehearsal Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Family or friends who are not attending the evening performance are welcome to attend the dress rehearsals! :)
Grade ones will all meet in one room to make it easier to line them up ready, and for ease of supervision. On the each of the performance nights, all grade one students will be meeting in Room 7 (Mrs. Morin's room) at 6:15pm, already in their colourful shirts. The students will have a choice of watching a movie or drawing and colouring. They can bring a small snack to eat sometime during the evening if they so choose.
Thank you for helping your child to prepare and feel confident for this exciting event!
