Eco Fun Lunch Tomorrow.
Our Words of the week are: girl, other, after, over, under, turn, hurt, birthday
we will be exploring the "bossy r" sound made by ur, er and ir this week. Can your child remember what sound ur, er and ir all make? Please watch the videos under the word work session and practice these words a little bit each night. Please remember that the main priority is on learning to read these words by sight and once your child becomes confident with this they can practice spelling them!
Today We:
-had literacy stations
-were word detectives and found word wall words and number words in our poetry.
-edited and revised our journal entries from yesterday.
-drew visual representations of our "ten buddy" facts. Can your child tell you all of the different equations that add up to ten?
-played a game with two sided counters to help us figure out our ten facts. Each group of partners had ten two-sided counters, which they shook up and dropped. Whichever partner figured out the ten buddy fact first got a point!
-watched a Bill Nye Video about the sense of smell.
-had PoWer Hour:
-in Nature Explorers we threw boiling water into the freezing and it turned into steam! We also blew bubbles outside and they turned froze into plastic.
-in Theatre Sports we played a game called Two Headed Monster.
-in Computer Programming I finished the first level and almost finished the second level.
-in Minecraft we explored a new village and were building in the village and flew into the top of a mountain.
-in Canvas Imagination I finished my crayon art and we started a new station where we were coloring.
-in restyled we chose a partner and made them clothing.
-in Strategic Games I played Chinese Checkers.
-in Canadian Soliders we started our battlefields.
Please and Thank you:

Important Concert Info:
We are excited for the upcoming school concert performances! The students are working very hard and sounding great! Students are asked to attend their performances wearing a solid-coloured (no prints or logos) yellow, orange, red, or green t-shirt, and dark pants. If you do not have a solid coloured t-shirt, you could always try turning one with a small graphic inside out and that should do the trick.
Please note that even if your child is not coming in the evening, there is a full performance each of those days during school hours so each child has an opportunity to perform at least once. Students with last names A-L will be performing Wednesday evening. There will also be an A-L dress rehearsal Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. Students with last names M-Z will be performing Thursday evening, with a dress rehearsal Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Family or friends who are not attending the evening performance are welcome to attend the dress rehearsals! :)
Grade ones will all meet in one room to make it easier to line them up ready, and for ease of supervision. On the each of the performance nights, all grade one students will be meeting in Room 7 (Mrs. Morin's room) at 6:15pm, already in their colourful shirts. The students will have a choice of watching a movie or drawing and colouring. They can bring a small snack to eat sometime during the evening if they so choose.
Thank you for helping your child to prepare and feel confident for this exciting event!
