was so wonderful to see everyone back looking so happy and well rested from the holidays!
A huge welcome to Crosby who moved from Hamilton, Ontario and joined our class today!
If you have not returned your signed report card envelope please do so ASAP! (You can keep the report card at home)
Words of the week are:
my, by, why, fly, try, happy, pretty, funny, family
All of these words contain the "sneaky, sly Y" at the end of the word. The sneaky, sly Y sneaks up and make the vowel sound at the end of words. Y says i at the end of a one beat word and Y says e at the end of a word with two or more syllables. Can your child tell you how the two sounds that y makes at the end of a word? Please practice these words a little each day. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. Please continue to review the "Y as a vowel" letter pattern videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-had a sharing circle where we each shared the best part about our holidays.
-started a new round of literacy stations.
-started using mats for gymnastics and learned about high, medium and low shapes as well as tucks, pikes and straddles.
-learned about our new word work pattern by watching video clips, chanting and body spelling.
-worked on visual journal pages reflecting on what happened during our winter break.
-had our daily numeracy time.
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-learned the numeracy strategy "Counting up/Counting back by 1. There are videos posted under math videos. Please practice this at home to build fluency with adding/subtracting 1. This can be done by calling out numbers and having your child tell you what one more or one less than that number is, or by turning over playing cards or numeral cards and saying 1 more/less.
