Our Words of the week are:
good, look, too, soon, took, book, school
All of these words follow the oo pattern. Can your child tell you the two sounds made by oo ? Please practice these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways! Please continue to review the sounds made by the oo pattern by watching the oo videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-got our "just right" books and practiced reading them in class.
-were word detectives and hunted for our words of the week in poetry.
-finished our pumpkin sketches and then learned about the parts of the pumpkin. We observed the pumpkins like scientists and labelled our diagrams of pumpkins.
-watched some slow motion videos about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Can your child tell you what a pumpkin grows on?
-did our daily numeracy skills time. Can your child count aloud to 100 by 1's?
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-finished our "I Can" and " I Can't YET" art.
-practiced our words of the week on white boards.
In Mail Pockets:
Home reading bags:You can take the colored information pages out but please leave the strategies book mark and books in the bag and be sure to return the bag to school each day. We will be using these bags both at home and at school.
Ray Kids Letters: These contain instructions for how to log in to the Raz Kids website. This is a wonderful web based reading resource that is paid for by the school. Please try and go on a few time before Monday morning. We will be trying to use laptops in our classroom then and it would be really helpful if your child has already practiced getting on several times!
Please and Thank you:
-a huge thank you to Evan's mom for stopping by to help in the classroom.
-if you are able to give reading support for the first half hour on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday please let our room coordinator, Laura Briggs know!
