-Little Caesars Fun Lunch Tomorrow.
-Please be sure to return the home reading bag each day whether your child has read the books or not. Please make sure that the books, word ring, tracking sheet and strategies bookmark are brought back to school each day because we will be using these at home and at school.
We will be celebrating Halloween on October 31st. You are allowed to come to school dressed in your costume. The morning will be a regular work day, and the afternoon will be reserved for a party. Please use your best judgement with costumes, and no weapons at school.
Our Words of the week are:
my, me, all, said, little, there,
Please try to practice these a little bit each evening. It is most important that your child is able to read these words so that they can find them on the word wall! Once they have learned to read them by sight please practice spelling these words.
Today we:
-were word detectives and found the words of the week in the poetry. We are getting so good at recognizing these important sight words!
-watched and discussed some video clips about the life cycle of a pumpkin (a few of these clips are under the science videos.
-played "Keep Away" to practice soccer defense skills.
-did our daily calendar. Can your child count groups of coins? Practice putting down three or four coins and counting them to see how much they add up to!
-learned the meaning of circumference during our Pumpkin Math and estimated what the circumference of our pumpkins were. Then determined if the actual circumference was longer, shorter or the same as our estimate. Finally, we found objects in the room that were the same length as the circumference of our pumpkins.
-Had PoWer Hour. In PoWer Hour we:
-played a game and tried to make dresses in restyled.
- built a home in Minecraft.
-made postcards to send to the veterans in Giving Hearts.
-did some painting in Modern Masters.
-we learned some new moves in Little Dragons.
-made a two headed monster in Sports.
-saw pictures of the battlefields in WWI. We also talked about the Veteran’s Food Drive.
-used hoops and looked through magnifying glasses to look at plants in Nature Exploration and we learned a new game.
- got onto the Spelling Bee Level in computer programming.
-Mrs. Smith played Cross Crib with Cameron’s brother and Myelle’s brother (and Mia too!)in Division 2 strategic games.
Please and Thank you:
-A huge thank you to Becca's Mom and Carys' mom for volunteering for reading support. Carys' mom worked very hard all morning long to update the sight word rings. Sight words were added to many of the rings that all words. If you did not get any words added keep practicing the words on the ring and the sight words will be added later this week. IF there are new words on the ring, please mix them up with the old words and keep practicing them all! I'm seeing HUGE growth in the recognition of sight words in our class. Thank you to all parents for all the hard work you are doing at home to support your child's reading growth! =)
-Thank you to Grace and her family for bringing in another pumpkin to replace a pumpkin that was accidentally dropped yesterday!
We could really use more volunteers each morning at 8:30-am in order to make our home reading program a success. Especially on Monday mornings! Please let our room coordinator, Leanne Trevis know if you are able to make it in. You do not need to come each week, any day that you can make it is always appreciated! Any parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends with volunteer clearance are welcome!
Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school,
Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Donations can be brought to Mrs. McKay’s classroom,
Please have all donations here by November 4 2016
