Highlights of Day:
-We continued to practice our words of the week. Our words of the week are: it, at, up, on, get. Please continue to practice these at home a little each night and continue to practice the short vowel sounds.
-We continued to practice our poem for the week called, Numbers, Numbers. We were word detectives and found forty of our words of the week in the poem.
-We read a book called Chrysanthemum. When did Chrysanthemum feel like she "wilted"? When did she feel like she was "blooming"? How is this like a flower?
-We worked on the number 5 today and saw how many ways we can make and represent five.
-Chrysanthemum's name is sixteen letters long. Each student wrote out their names to figure out how long they were. We used our names as a non-standard unit of measure. What did your child find that was the same length as their name?(equal) What was longer than their name? What was shorter than their name? How many times did it take for their name to get across the carpet?
-We did salt printing to practice our half moon letters. Practice the half moon letters at home using the following language:
c- start at the top, make a half moon.
a-start at the top. Make a half moon. Go straight up to touch the top of the moon. Drop straight back down and go "Splat" (on the bottom line)
d-start at the top. Make a half moon. Fly way up high. Drop straight back down and go "splat".
g-start at the top. Make a half moon. Go straight up to touch the top of the moon. Drop straight down into the water and make a hook.
q-start at the top. Make a half moon. Go straight up to touch the top of the moon. drop straight down under the ground.
Please remind your child to start at the top when making half moon letters and only to use one stroke and never lift the pencil off the paper.
We had music! Be sure to check out Mrs. Dennill's blog!
We watched a short video called "Kindness, pass it on". Ask your child how kindness was passed on in the video? How can they pass on kindness in the world?
