The deadline for the draw for $50 worth of books is tomorrow! The ballot is at the back of the scholastic flyer.
A few students forgot their yellow poetry folders. If your child has not yet returned his/her poetry folder please return it tomorrow.
Our library book exchange will be next Monday September 18. It is cancelled this week due to book fair. Please keep library books at home until then.
Our Words of the week are:
it is in at am us up
Please practice these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways!
Today we:
-continued to talk about the idea of Growth Mindset. For our community meeting we each verbally completed the sentence "I can..." and "I can't...YET!" The power of yet is so important in order to grow as learners!
-continued to read our poem of the week "Short Vowel Song" we are getting much better at reading it Fluently! After that we did punctuation pause where we found punctuation in our poetry and circled it. Does your child remember what the period, exclamation mark and question mark are used for in writing?
-reviewed our short vowel letters and sounds. Can your child tell you what letters are our vowels? What sounds do they make? What are the actions to go with those sounds?
-read the story "How Full is Your Bucket-For Kids" and learned that every person has an invisible bucket that can be filled up or can be dipped from. All children have been challenged to try and be "social detectives" and look for other people who may need their buckets filled.
-continued to discuss printing posture and learned some more hand strengthening exercises. Then practiced printing our flagpole letters (i j l t k) on gel bags.
-had our daily calendar time. Today I introduced how to find missing numbers in addition sentences by using the strategy of counting on. This is still really tricky! Can you work together with your child to answer the following sentences- 8+____=12 4+_____=6
-had music with Mrs. Dennill. Have you checked out her blog yet?
-Finished our "I am..." art projects.
-watched videos under the word work folder of our blog that help us learn our short vowel sounds.
