Highlights of the day:
We had an awesome day at Grow Calgary! I was so impressed with how well the grade one students represented Prince of Wales School. Grow Calgary is such a wonderful organization and it was great to learn more about them and what they are doing to make a difference.
We started the field trip with learning stations. We went to five different stations:
1) Beehives-ask your child why bees are so important to the farm? What happens if the Queen Bee dies? Who are the Guard Bees?
2)Earth Ship Greenhouse-Ask your child what the Earthship Green House was made from?
3) Compost-What is put in a compost? What is made from a compost pile? How is it used?
4) Gleaning-repurposing and recycling of materials. This is very important to the Grow Calgary Farm. What items were being repurposed in the Gleaning area?
5)Artisian Spring-What was the water from the artisan spring used for? Why was there an old water bottle and a hose in the artisan spring?
We harvested many vegetables. Ask your child what kinds of vegetables we picked?
We ended our day playing a giant game of hide and seek on the farm. So fun!
