On the last morning of school before the break (Friday, December 16), grade ones will enjoy a Family Traditions potluck brunch to celebrate the season! Part of our social studies curriculum is understanding and appreciating traditions that shape our identities and communities. Students are encouraged to bring a dish that is a tradition for their family, along with a small explanation or artifact (story, photo, etc.) that helps tell about the tradition. It can be a dish special to Christmas, unique to your cultural heritage, or simply a family favourite. Family members are welcome to join us for the brunch, which will be followed by a Christmas sing-along with Paulo. We will enjoy a cozy morning of sharing, traditions, and seasonal songs!

Please practice these a little over the weekend and check out the "ch" videos in word work under the blog!
Today We:
-did punctuation pause in our poetry.
-did our sharing of our Christmas Traditions. It was so great to hear about everyones unique traditions! A few students forgot to bring in their traditions today. I let them know that they are welcome to bring them tomorrow if they would like to!
-read a really interesting book that Carys brought in about different Christmas traditions around the world. It was so interesting to find out about these and learn which countries some of the traditions that we follow in our own houses come from and why. Thanks so much to Carys for bringing this in!
-continued watching subatizing videos where students had to subatize ten frames. Ask your child to tell you what subatize means. After the videos students worked to create their own ten frames with the ways that they see each number.
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-had library.
-tried Samosa's ( a traditional indian food eaten during Diwali)-some students found these too spicy but many students liked them! I was really impressed that most students tried them! Then we read one final book about Diwali and watched another youtube clip and then worked on sketchbook pages to demonstrate our understandings of Diwali.
