We will be celebrating Halloween on October 31st. You are allowed to come to school dressed in your costume. The morning will be a regular work day, and the afternoon will be reserved for a party. Please use your best judgement with costumes, and no weapons at school.
Our Words of the week are:
the, then, that, this with
Please try to practice these a little bit each night. It is most important that your child is able to read these words so that they can find them on the word wall!
Today we:
-did "rhyme time" in our poetry where we circled all rhymes in purple.
-practiced our words of the week by reading them and body spelling them. We practiced the correct mouth formation for making the "th" sound. Please remember when practicing the words of the week that it is most important that these words can be read by sight (instantly upon seeing them) practice this first. If your child can read the words then you can practice spelling them.
-had computer time. Many students made it on to the Raz Kids website today. Please have your child practice typing in the website www.atozlearning.com and then logging on to Raz Kids on their own. This is still tricky for many students to do on their own but "practice makes progress!".
-learned about what a growth mindset is by watching and discussing you tube clips about Growth Mindset. These are now in a folder under the videos section.
-Played "Don't throw your junk in my backyard" by doing correct soccer kicks in gym.
-did our daily calendar routine. Many students are still finding it tricky to read the date from the calendar. Please practice this at home if you have time.
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-had Library where we exchanged our books and visited with our ACAD artist Mike.
-went to buddies where our buddies read us their favourite picture book.
Please and Thank you:
-A huge thank you to Becca's mom and Brock's mom for volunteering this morning.
-Please return the poetry book if you have not done so this week. Please return the home reading bag each day.
We could really use more volunteers each morning at 8:30-am in order to make our home reading program a success. Please let our room coordinator, Leanne Trevis know if you are able to make it in. You do not need to come each week, any day that you can make it is always appreciated!
Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school,
Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Donations can be brought to Mrs. McKay’s classroom,
Please have all donations here by November 4 2016
