Highlights of Day:
-We celebrated character day by discussing what it means to have good character, watching some short video clips on different character traits (self control and sharing) and having two teacher swaps where two teachers from other grades came to our class to read a book about character.
-We found the punctuation in our poetry. Ask your child what commas, periods, question marks and exclamation marks are? When are they used? What do you do when you see one of these punctuation marks when you are reading?-We practiced the poem as a whole class and all students practiced using their pointer fingers when reading. The poetry books are coming home today. please remind your child to use his/her pointer finger to point to each word as they read the poem to you.
-we had our first visit to the idea lab. The idea lab has had many changes since last year. We had free exploration of the different centers there. Ask your child which center they visited and what they did there?
-In gym we practiced the character trait of creativity by using different equipment in stations creatively in our own ways.
-we did our daily calendar. Can your child read the date by looking at the calendar? This is tricky but many of us are getting it! Keep practicing this at home.
-we had music. Be sure to check out Mrs. Dennill's blog!
-We had library. Please remember to return the library books every Thursday in order to exchange them for a new one.
-In math we worked on representing the number 7 in as many ways as we could.
-We ended the day with a game called mystery back writing. Each students chose words off the word wall and used their finger to write it on their partners back. The partner had to figure out which word wall word they were writing. You can try this game to practice the word wall words at home.
