Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on the long a /ai/ay/ spelling chunk.

Volunteer Opportunities:
- We will be walking to Park 96 on Wednesday April 18 after lunch (around 12:30) to do an Earth Day clean up. Please send students with gardening gloves and appropriate clothing and footwear. Please e-mail me if you are able to join us. Thank you!
We will be having Scientists in School in our classroom for the afternoon of Tuesday April 24 for the program, Structures Under Construction. We are looking for 3 volunteers for that afternoon. Please e-mail me if you are able to join us. Thank you!
- We would gratefully welcome help with the publishing stage of our Grade One Family Traditions cookbook. Please email me if you are interested in coming in to help assemble and coil-bind books. Thanks!
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Student Led Conferences
Student-led conferences are an opportunity for your child to demonstrate what they know and have learned at school. Conferences will be held on Thursday April 19th from 3:30 – 7:30pm and Friday April 20th from 8:00-9:00am. Conferences will be in half hour blocks, allowing you and your child 30 minutes to share their work in the classroom with 2 other families present. Teachers will be available in the classroom but will not be booking specific time slot interviews. Please be prepared to spend this quality time with your child, as they will have tasks and activities to share with you.
If teachers feel the need to meet privately with you to discuss your child’s progress, they will contact you by Friday the 13th. You feel you require a one-on-one interview and have not heard from your child’s teacher by Friday, April 13th, please connect with them to set up a time.
