oat, goal, toe, below, know, go, so, no, snow, rainbow, show
All of these words contain the long o sounds, in different forms. We discussed the rule "when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking and says his name" This rule can be seen in the words containing oe or oa. We also learned that ow has two sounds...this week we are focusing on the long o sound made by ow. Can your child tell you how the sound made by oe, oa and ow? Please practice these words a little each day. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. Please continue to review the long o letter pattern videos under word work on the blog.
Today we:
-did literacy stations.
- read our "Rainbow Song" poem many times practicing fluency and expression.
-played Frogger in gym.
-had a Skype call with a grade one class in Kansas, and learned about the winter holidays that they celebrate and the traditions that they have there.
-did our daily numeracy time. Can your child count by 5's to 100? This takes lots of practice! Please try to practice counting aloud by 5's every time you are driving somewhere together!
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
.-combined art and science, making value scales for tints and shades with paint.
-started to apply what we have learned about mixing colours and creating tints and shades with a beautiful winter art project. Today we started the backgrounds -- layers of tints and shades of a uniquely blended pure tone, to look like a glowing moon sky!
