-please remember to return your home reading bags and word rings each day!
-two students did not have their poetry books today! If they did not have it at school today or yesterday please have them circle the words of the week in black, underline ee in blue and ea in purple, and circle the punctuation-commas in yellow, periods in red and capitals in green for homework and return the poetry book tomorrow!
There are no new words of the week this week. Instead, we are reviewing all previously learned words of the the week. Please review all words learned and assist your child to learn any word wall words that they cannot yet read by sight.
Today We:
-came in to find that the "magic desk fairy" had come to visit and moved the desk around. This caused a great deal of excitement. The magic desk fairy left a bunch of frogs on all of the desks letting the students know that the desks needed to be cleaned in order to turn the frogs into princes and princesses and get a prize.
-had literacy stations. Ask your child which literacy he/she was on? How was their focus during literacy stations.
-were punctuation detectives and circled all of the punctuation in our poetry.
-did our volunteer time for the sandwich foundation! The sandwich foundation was really impressed with how hard everyone worked making the sandwiches. Between both grade one classes we made 900 sandwiches in an hour! These lunches will be given to working homeless people so they will have a lunch to eat when they are at work! Great job to our grade one students!
-had a discussion about all of the ideas that were given for helping kids in need in Calgary and decided that we will do a gently used clothing and toy drive in December and deliver the toys to homeless shelters. More information will be coming about this shortly.
-had music with Mrs. Dennill.
-did our daily math calendar time and finished the word problem from yesterday.
-finished off our creative colour wheels and colour mixing experiments.
-had some catch up time to work in our sketchbook to ensure that all pages are our best work.

Canstruction
Canstruction Club just began this week with the grade 5 and 6’s who signed up! We will be designing and creating a structure out of non-perishable food items as part of a contest in partner with the Mayor’s 28th Annual Christmas Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank. The project is called Canstruction Jr. We are asking for donations to help us build our structure and are specifically looking for green items such as cans and boxes that are green in colour. A variety of sizes would be great. Thanks in advance for your support with this! We look forward to showing your our finished product.
Please contact Mrs.Blanchard or Mrs.Hammond with with questions.
