Our Words of the week are:
This week we are reviewing all short vowel words that we have learned so far and the sounds made by each of the short vowels. Our short vowel words are: at, as, am and, can, did, fun, get, got, him, his, in, is, it, on, of, let, ran, us, up just, jump, must, best, went, help.
Please continue to practice all of these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways! Please continue to review the sounds made by the short vowels by watching videos under word work on the blog and having your child show you the different action made by the short vowels!
Today we:
-worked in groups to practice our short vowel family big books.
-played a game called, "rhyme it, change it" to review our c-v-c words. It started with a student writing any cvc word (ex. cat), the next student changes the word to a rhyming word by changing the first letter (ex. mat), the student after that changes the word to another word by changing the second or third letter (ex. man or met). Try this fun game at home with your child to help reinforce sounding out of c-v-c words!
-joined Mr. V's grade four class to learn about robotics and draw our own robots.
-had our daily numeracy skills work. Today we focused on finding missing digits in subtraction equations. Can your child answer these equations: 10-____=12, 17-____=14, 15-2=_______? We used strategies we call "Blast off" and drawing dots to solve this!
-continued to work on finishing our "I can, I can't...YET" art. I'm happy to report that most students are almost done...a few aren't quite done...YET!
