-Please be sure to return the home reading bag each day whether your child has read the books or not. Please make sure that the books, word ring, tracking sheet and strategies bookmark are brought back to school each day because we will be using these at home and at school.
We will be celebrating Halloween on October 31st. You are allowed to come to school dressed in your costume. The morning will be a regular work day, and the afternoon will be reserved for a party. Please use your best judgement with costumes, and no weapons at school.
Our Words of the week are:
my, me, all, said, little, there,
Please try to practice these a little bit each evening. It is most important that your child is able to read these words so that they can find them on the word wall! Once they have learned to read them by sight please practice spelling these words.
Today we:
-tried iPads, Raz kids, guided reading or independent reading during our literacy stations this morning.
-did punctuation pause in poetry, where we found and circled all punctuation and discussed why it is important. Can your child tell you the names of the following punctuation-.!?, What are they used for?
-did our daily calendar routine. Can your child read the date from a calendar? This is still tricky for many of us! Keep practicing at home!
-continued learning soccer skills in gym.
-finished our fall reflections.
-did pumpkin math where we learned about measurement using kg to weigh. There is a video clip about this under the math folder. What is something that weighs one gram? What is something that weighs one kilogram? Ask your child how many kg his/her pumpkins was?
-did art where we used careful observation skills in order to sketch our pumpkins.
Please and Thank you:
-A huge thank you to Connor's mom for volunteering for reading support.
-A huge thank you to Cohen's mom for assembling our November book orders.
We could really use more volunteers each morning at 8:30-am in order to make our home reading program a success. Especially on Monday mornings! Please let our room coordinator, Leanne Trevis know if you are able to make it in. You do not need to come each week, any day that you can make it is always appreciated! Any parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends with volunteer clearance are welcome!
Dear Students and family members of Prince of Wales school,
Mrs. McKay’s POWer hour is all about giving back and helping other. The first group of people that we have chosen to help live right in our city. We will be collecting winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mitts, and snow pants that are gently used. These items will be for Syrian Refugees from Keeler school in Calgary, where Ms. Georg is now teaching. The refugees have left their homes with nothing but themselves. (Think about it if you did not have a warm winter coat walking out into the snow). Please bring in sizes for age 4 and up. Please help out! Donations can be brought to Mrs. McKay’s classroom,
Please have all donations here by November 4 2016
