Another wonderful day! If at any time you have any questions for me the best way to reach me is by e-mail at [email protected].
Prince of Wales 40th Anniversary Celebration Tomorrow Night! Everyone is welcome to attend!
Our Words of the week are:
of you to the day and all
Please practice these a little each night. It is most important that they can be recognized by sight to read them. Once your child can read them please practice spelling them. This can be done through body spelling, chanting, making the words with play dough, drawing the words in sand and so many other fun ways!
Today we:
-continued to be word detectives and hunt for our words of the week in books. Can you try this at home?
-did "Punctuation Pause" in our poetry. We learned the names of periods, question marks and exclamation marks in writing. We learned that they are all stop signs, we need to stop and take a big breath when we see them! We learned what a comma is, this is a slow down sign and we need to slow down our reading. We circled stop signs in red and slow down signs in yellow in our poetry!
-practiced reading our words of the week and writing them on white boards.
-learned two "silent signals" in gym, ask your child what "make a house" and "circle up" look like and mean in the gym. We practiced using these signals while playing the cooperative game "Everybody's It!"
-Read the book You Be You By Linda Kranz. In this book we learned that we all have something special that only we can share and we can learn so much from each other. We decided that we would like to make fish rocks like the fish rocks in the book. Please bring in a smooth rock about the size of a child's hand by Friday. If you can find extra bring them in for friends who may not be able to find any!
-used the sentence starters "I am..." and "I am not" to write in our journals. Ask your child how he/she finished those sentences!
-shared a smart notebook where we learned the Numbers of Mrs. Smith...ask what the numbers 7, 42.2 and 75 mean to Mrs. Smith!
-did our daily calendar. Can you practice counting aloud by 2's, 5's and 10's while driving in the car?
-started a special "I am" art project. These will be on display during the 40th Anniversary party tomorrow night!
